Linux是首选操作系统。所有支持的操作系统可参见My Oracle Support
Oracle数据库软件可免费下载用于学习,但只提供基础版本,补丁需要有支持服务才能下载。
可以从OTN或edelivery下载。通常是ZIP格式,18c及以后版本提供RPM格式。
关于安装用户,Linux/Unix平台下不能用root用户安装。最佳建议是一个用户用于Oracle数据库软件,一个用户用于GI(Grid Infrastructure)软件。
安装数据库软件的用户通常是oracle,primary group为oinstall,secondary group为dba。安装GI软件的用户通常是grid.
这些用户和组在安装数据库前必须建好。
Oracle数据库软件安装需要约5GB空间,只能安装于文件系统,不能为ASM或裸设备。
Oracle Home是软件安装的位置,每一次软件安装都有自己的Oracle Home。一个Oracle Base可以有多个Oracle Home。
Oracle Base的格式为/pm/s/u,u表示安装用户。例如:
/u01/app/oracle
每一个Oracle Home的格式为/pm/s/u/product/v/type_[n],例如:
/u01/app/oracle/product/12.2.0.1/dbhome_1
组成数据库的文件通常位于Oracle Home下的“oradata/实例名称”中,例如:
/u01/app/oracle/product/12.2.0.1/dbhome_1/oradata/orcl
OUI inventory通常位于/u01/app/oraInventory目录。
OUI(Oracle Universal Install)安装时会检查安装先决条件,只有满足这些先决条件,才会开始安装。基本的先决条件文件位于安装包的install目录下,文件名为oraparam.ini。例如:

操作系统推荐Oracle Linux,因为这些先决条件通常都已经满足,没有太多额外工作。
如果在不满足先决条件前提下安装了数据库,Oracle Support可能拒绝提供支持。
Oracle提供数据库预安装包,RPM格式,可以满足这些先决条件。这个包只有几十K,其实就是运行脚本,包括建立用户,设置内核参数等。详情参见链接。
这个文档比较全面,注意两点:
Oracle会记录所有在主机上的Oracle软件安装,包括Oracle Home,此概念称为Oracle Inventory。
Oracle Inventory的位置记录在/etc/oraInst.loc中,oraInst.loc中会记录实际的Inventory文件,例如:

在以上的示例中,ORACLE_HOME是/opt/oracle而非/u01/app/oracle,这也是一种常用的设置。
OUI是Java写的,安装包中自带JDK。通过运行runInstaller.sh开始OUI安装。交互式的OUI安装必须依赖于图形界面。
OUI也支持静默安装,例如GitHub上的vagrant-box即是如此。静默安装需要响应文件,例如db_install.rsp,通常位于response目录下。
